Whyalla Maritime Museum
Home to HMAS Whyalla, a WWII corvette dry-docked on land, telling the story of the town's shipbuilding and steel heritage.
The Whyalla Maritime Museum is built around an unusual centrepiece: HMAS Whyalla, a World War II minesweeper that was the first ship built at the Whyalla shipyards, now sitting in dry dock 2.5 kilometres from the sea — the largest landlocked ship in Australia.
Guided tours take you aboard the corvette, while indoor galleries trace Whyalla's transformation from a remote outpost into a major shipbuilding and steel city. It is the best place to understand the industrial story behind the upper Spencer Gulf.
