Whyalla Foreshore & Marina
Whyalla's redeveloped beachfront and marina, with calm Spencer Gulf swimming, a playground and a waterfront walk.
The Whyalla foreshore is the city's front porch onto Spencer Gulf. A sweep of imported sand, a sheltered swimming enclosure, a marina full of fishing boats and a generous playground make it the natural gathering place for families, walkers and anyone chasing a gulf sunrise.
The waterfront promenade links the beach to the marina, where cafes and the fishing fleet give the place a working-harbour feel. In winter the gulf draws the giant Australian cuttlefish that Whyalla is famous for, and the foreshore is the launching point for many a snorkelling trip up the coast to Point Lowly.
It is an easy, central stop with parking, shade and facilities. Come for a calm-water swim, a fish off the marina, or simply to watch the steelworks city meet the sea.
