Smooth Pool

A sheltered natural rock pool among the granite of the Cape Bauer loop near Streaky Bay.

A calm pool in a wild place

Smooth Pool sits on the dramatic Cape Bauer loop drive out of Streaky Bay, where the coastline is all heaved-up granite and pounding swell. Amid that rugged scene, a natural rock basin holds a pool of clear, sheltered water — calm enough to swim and snorkel even as the ocean roars beyond.

The rounded granite and rock pools make it a beautiful spot to explore at low tide, with marine life in the shallows and the spectacle of the surf crashing on the surrounding reefs. It is exposed and conditions matter, so judge the swell carefully before you get in.

Combined with the blowholes and cliffs of the Cape Bauer loop, it is one of the highlights of the Streaky Bay coast.
