Eyre Peninsula Wildlife Encounters

Great whites, sea lions, dolphins and giant cuttlefish in three days

3 days Wildlife seekers and adventurous swimmers 6 stops

The plan

Nowhere else in Australia can you cage-dive with great whites, swim with wild sea lions and dolphins, and watch giant cuttlefish gather — all on one peninsula. This itinerary chases the Eyre’s extraordinary marine and arid-zone wildlife.

Day 1 — Port Lincoln & the Neptunes

Base yourself in Port Lincoln and head offshore: cage-dive with great white sharks at the Neptune Islands, or choose the gentler option of swimming with playful Australian sea lions and tuna.

Day 2 — Sea lions, whales & koalas

Drive the Lincoln National Park coast to Memory Cove, visit the wild koalas of Mikkira Station, then head west toward Baird Bay to swim with sea lions and dolphins in a sheltered lagoon.

Day 3 — Sea lions & cuttlefish

Stand on the clifftop at Point Labatt above the mainland sea lion colony, then, in winter, detour to Whyalla’s Point Lowly for the world’s only known mass aggregation of Australian giant cuttlefish.

Many encounters are seasonal and weather-dependent — book ahead, and treat every animal as wild.
