Wild Koalas Under the Manna Gums
A historic sheep station where wild koalas doze in the manna gums - one of the few places on the Eyre Peninsula to see them in the wild.
A koala sanctuary by accident
Mikkira Station is one of the oldest sheep stations on the Eyre Peninsula, and the manna gums around its 1840s homestead have become an accidental koala sanctuary. Koalas were introduced to the area last century and now live wild among the trees, where visitors can wander quietly and spot them dozing in the forks of the gums.
The station is privately run on an honesty-box basis. As well as koalas, you may see emus, kangaroos and an abundance of birdlife. Basic bush camping is available, making it a peaceful overnight stop close to Port Lincoln.
