Tumby Island Conservation Park

A small island off Tumby Bay protecting seabird breeding habitat, reachable by kayak across calm gulf water.

Tumby Island sits just offshore from Tumby Bay in the calm waters of Spencer Gulf, protected as a conservation park for its seabird and shorebird breeding habitat. The sheltered passage between the island and the mainland is popular with kayakers and paddleboarders on still mornings.

The island is an important refuge for nesting birds, so access on land is limited to protect them, but the paddle out and the birdlife along the way make it a rewarding outing. Conditions can change quickly on the gulf, so check the weather and tides before setting out.
