A peaceful oyster-farming village near Ceduna with a long jetty, a popular foreshore caravan park and famous sunsets over the water.
A quiet oyster town
Smoky Bay, named by Matthew Flinders for the Aboriginal fires he saw onshore in 1802, is today one of the Eyre Peninsula's important oyster-growing centres. Racks of leases stretch out into the shallow, sheltered bay, supplying oysters prized for their clean, sweet flavour.
The village itself is small and relaxed, built around a long jetty and a foreshore caravan park that fills with returning regulars each summer. Sunsets here, with the silhouetted oyster racks and the still water, are among the most beautiful on the west coast.
