A remote, world-renowned surf break south of Penong, home to the famous Cactus, Castles and Caves waves.
The end-of-the-road surf legend
Far out beyond Penong, down a long dirt road near Point Sinclair, Cactus Beach is one of Australia's most legendary surf destinations. Its three main breaks — Cactus, Castles and Caves — produce powerful, consistent Southern Ocean waves that have drawn dedicated surfers for decades.
The setting is raw and remote, with a basic bush camp and little else. That isolation is the whole point: Cactus is about pure surfing, big skies and self-sufficiency at the western edge of the Eyre Peninsula. For many surfers, a trip here is a pilgrimage.
