Woolshed Cave

A vast sea cave carved into the cliffs at Talia, north of Elliston, reached by a short walk and a cliff stairway.

Woolshed Cave is the showstopper of the Talia coastline north of Elliston. A huge cavern has been gouged into the soft limestone cliff by the relentless Southern Ocean, framing the surf and sky beyond like a natural amphitheatre. At low tide and on a calm day you can pick your way down to its floor.

The cave sits alongside The Tub, a deep circular sinkhole in the cliff top a short walk away, making Talia a two-for-one stop on any west-coast drive. The contrast of pale stone, dark cave and turquoise water is spectacular, and the whole site has a wild, end-of-the-earth feeling.

Access is via unsealed road and a short cliff-top walk with steps down toward the cave. Take care near the edges and the surge, watch the tide, and go in good light to do the colours justice.
