Cowell Jetty

A long heritage jetty over the calm waters of Franklin Harbour at Cowell, a favourite for fishing and gulf sunsets.

Cowell's jetty stretches out over the protected waters of Franklin Harbour, one of the largest and most sheltered natural harbours on the Eyre Peninsula. It is a classic country jetty: weathered timber, patient anglers, and kids dropping lines for whiting and squid as the sun goes down over the gulf.

Franklin Harbour all but encircles the town, its narrow entrance opening into a broad lagoon famous for blue swimmer crabs and oysters. The jetty is the easiest way to get out over the water, whether for a fish, a stroll, or a front-row seat to the colour the sky throws up most evenings.

Cowell itself is the gateway to a major jade deposit and a working oyster town, so the jetty fits naturally into a day of local seafood and small-town wandering. Bring a rod and a bucket and settle in.
