Perlubie Beach
A broad, shallow, drive-on beach north of Streaky Bay where families park on the sand and the tide goes out forever.
Perlubie Beach is a Streaky Bay institution. At low tide the water pulls back across a vast flat expanse of firm sand, leaving warm shallow pools that are ideal for small children, and locals simply drive their cars down and set up for the day right on the beach.
The gentle gradient means the swimming is calm and safe by Eyre Peninsula standards, and the long flat sand is perfect for beach cricket, kite-flying and lazy afternoons. A historic stone shelter shed near the access track adds a touch of old-fashioned seaside charm.
It is an easy run north of Streaky Bay township on the Flinders Highway. Check the tide before you arrive, because the beach is at its best on the drop, and keep an eye on the incoming water if you park on the sand.
