Hally Beach & Cape Bauer Loop
A coastal drive loop west of Streaky Bay linking sheltered Hally Beach with the dramatic blowholes and cliffs of Cape Bauer.
The Cape Bauer loop is Streaky Bay's answer to a wild-coast Sunday drive. The unsealed road threads out to a peninsula of folded granite and limestone where the Southern Ocean throws itself against the cliffs, sending spray up through blowholes on a big swell.
Along the way, sheltered Hally Beach offers a calmer counterpoint, a curve of sand good for a swim or a picnic before the road climbs back into the cliff country. Lookouts along the loop take in the whales that pass in winter and the seabirds that wheel off the headlands year-round.
The full loop is a comfortable half-day with stops. Take it slow on the gravel, bring a windproof layer for the exposed lookouts, and time the blowholes for a southerly swell when they perform best.
