Coffin Bay: A Slow Oyster Weekend

Two unhurried days of oysters, sheltered bays and national-park beaches.

2 days Oysters, calm water and easy walks 6 stops

Few places reward a slow pace like Coffin Bay. The little town wraps around a maze of sheltered waterways famous for their oysters, while the national park beyond hides some of the most beautiful and least-crowded beaches in the state.

The plan

Begin with the essentials: a tour out onto the oyster leases, then a dozen freshly shucked at the water's edge. Walk the gentle loop around Kellidie Bay for mangroves and birdlife, and watch the sunset from Oyster HQ. On day two, drive into Coffin Bay National Park for the dazzling sand of Almonta Beach and the lookout at Point Avoid, with a stop at the historic Mount Dutton Bay woolshed on the way home.

It is a weekend built around good food, calm water and the simple pleasure of having a beach to yourself.
