Inland Rocks & Wilderness
Three days among the granite monoliths, salt lakes and mallee of the inland peninsula.
Most visitors hug the Eyre Peninsula coast, but the inland is just as remarkable - a land of giant granite monoliths, ancient volcanic rock, salt lakes and endless mallee under enormous skies.
The plan
Base yourself around Wudinna and warm up on the granite: the long climb up Mount Wudinna, the perfect wave of Pildappa Rock, and the smaller domes nearby. Push north into the Gawler Ranges for the extraordinary volcanic organ pipes and the cascade at Kolay Mirica Falls. Finish in the deep wilderness of Pinkawillinie or Lake Gilles, where the mallee runs to the horizon and the silence is total.
It is a trip for travellers who love wide, empty country, ancient rock and the particular magic of the arid inland after rain.
